Office Intern in Austrian Alps

NATURE OF THE WORK: The intern will assist with the administration of an Austrian NGO that uses non-traditional project teaching, utilizing components of active learning such as language activities, team-based competitions, songs and theatre activities. ABCi has a special focus on bringing free English lessons to rural and often otherwise overlooked children in the alpine region. As well as gaining experience in clerical duties, the intern will rotate through the office, gaining experience in the three main aspects of the organization: Human resources, Fundraising and Marketing, as well as Project Logistics. Specifically, they would be expected to support human resources with recruitment projects, assisting with volunteer welfare, and provide teaching support when necessary. Additionally, the intern will gain experience in fundraising by researching potential sponsors and in marketing by formatting and distributing promotional material. Finally, they will be given administration experience by preparing project materials, creating teaching resources, and assisting with data entry. The volunteer is provided with training and feedback from a senior member of staff, full room and board with internet access, travel costs, evenings, weekends and Austrian public holidays free. Internship dates: 4th January 2015- 28th March 2015

ORGANISATION PROFILE: ABCi is an Austrian NGO bringing together Austrian children and English native-speaking volunteers to form a bilingual learning environment by means of linguistic immersion, cultural exchange and foreign sports that promotes the use of English in Austrian classrooms and will provide every child in Austria with an English project day including elements of language, culture and sport by the year 2020. ABCi also aims to provide in-service CLIL training for all interested teachers in Austria, fair wages for our staff, and professional development for our volunteers. ABCi encourages students to become supporting members of the association while fostering ties with government, community and business leaders.

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will speak English to a native level of fluency, with proficiency in German, a Bachelor’s degree in education (or related field) and/or experience working with children, experience working in an office environment, genuine talent for working with children and a driver’s license. Candidates with experience in a non-traditional teaching environment such as summer camps, youth groups or outdoor education will be preferred. Candidates selected for this position will be subjected to a background investigation.

SALARY: Volunteer placement, all expenses paid and German language training also included. ABCi is structured in such a way that no programming fee is required from the successful applicant.
