How to Help Slow Learners Love and Understand English

Admin - Dec 01 2016

Learning English is difficult for many learners. Most of them give up at the onset of a new challenge. Learning English requires mind tenacity and passion to achieve the highest rankings of diction and the mastery of the language. In this article, I will give you the greatest secrets of turning any person referred to as a slow learner into a quick learner and also raise the heights of passion toward the language.

Either way, one has to put some effort into learning any concept. I have halved the effort required for your own benefit; to make you a smart student. I will require one generous favor from you, one secret no one will tell you. One secret that will produce results in any entity released. If you have ever experienced the key ingredient to any amount of success, then you must have guessed the secret. I will give you a half of the secret and the rest of it will be unleashed inside this article. The secret is PRACTICE.

ENGAGE LISTENING SKILLS.

Most English language teachers input a lot of effort in making the students read a lot and listen too little. This should not be the case. For instance, when a baby is young no – one uses books to teach them a language. Babies learn by listening. The art of listening to information goes beyond the childhood into the grown up ages. To make a slow learner understand English, a teacher should engage the students to listen more and read less. The teacher could read the text out loud in a bid to ask questions after the lesson. This grows the child’s memory capacity ready to get and store more information which eventually makes them pros.

My great faith in engaging listening skills is immovable. Other methods of making sure that the slow learning student improves are:

1.     Encourage audio lessons.

2.     Encourage students to spend more time listening on radio, iPod and much.

3.     Encourage pronunciation tests while the students listen to the audio.

PSYCHE THE STUDENT.

Nothing is more wonderful than being motivated. Having the attitude that the student can perform. Installing the success mentality within the group of slow learners. This is the golden rule. Encourage the students by giving them the assurance of being better as time goes by. When one makes a mistake or makes a wrong sentence syntax, as a teacher never scold the student. Motivate them and encourage opportunistic correction by self. Make the students feel that it is not a mistake for them to forget but an opportunity for their improvement. No one is born an expert but we all learn by practicing more and more.

English language poses a bunch of difficulties in understanding which consequentially can be overcome by relentless practice. Every morning or a moment you enter the class room, psyche the students. Make them feel “YES WE CAN”. The results of this are:

1.     Students gain trust to the teacher.

2.     Students feel wanted.

3.     Students love the lesson.

4.     The results of excellence are observed.

INCORPORATE AUDIO VISUAL LEARNING RESOURCES.

The most trending characteristic among the slow learners is that they often learn more swiftly by using visual learning resources and hearing than by reading. This is reflected in the performance index in the basic skill learning areas like reading where the performance scale is normally below grade level among slow learners. Incorporate scheduled video films in your lessons as a learning strategy. This will increase the lesson productivity from the students.

PEER TEACHERS

If you want a 5 star rating of performance from your slow learners, simply introduce an excellent and willing-to-deliver peer teacher. The advantages of a peer teacher go beyond the comfortable lesson. There are numerous advantages of engaging a peer teacher:

1.     The age difference is most likely to be close thereby making a great bond between the teacher and the student.

2.     The delivery from the competent peer teacher is highly appreciated by the peer students.

3.     It leads to motivation to the students since they admire one of their successful equals.

4.     A challenge posed by a peer teacher is highly likely to be tackled by all learners due to the psychological mentality of possibility.

5.     Peer teachers can revolutionize the learning life of their equals but slow learning students.

It is important to note that peer teaching requires care in selection of the particular peer teacher. A well-developed personality is mandatory to the great performance of the particular peer teacher.

The qualities to observe before selecting a peer teacher are:

1.     Age difference should be close to the student audience.

2.     Likeable personality.

3.     Positive influence to peers.

4.     Leadership qualities.

5.     Ability to deliver content to the students in an understandable manner.

6.     Content mastery or at least mastery of the content being taught.

It is good also to investigate if the students would appreciate one of their own. Find out the personality or the particular peer they admire. Then go ahead and make your appointment.

BOOT CAMP ENGLISH.

The question; what is an English boot camp?

An English boot camp is a type of group training program conducted by the teachers of English language. These programs are designed to build new strength and understanding of the English concepts through a variety of intense group intervals of a designed time length.

Now that you understand what a boot camp is, I would like you as a teacher to apply the principles highlighted in its definition to enabling the slow learners learn and love English faster.

The best way to organize a boot camp is engaging students of other institutions especially the slow learners and the quick learners and mingling them appropriately to generate a great mix of their knowledge proportions.

It is also recommended that the teacher can set guidelines for handling the boot camp topics, starting from simpler topics that the slow learners will love to the most complex ones. I believe this is the exact thing the slow learners need. The cohesion of knowledge in the easiest way delivered.

Use the boot camp method and enjoy its miracles.

CONCLUSION:

I would love to really write more about this topic but the above headlines make changes in the classroom environment. Why don’t you try them today? As earlier put, you cannot make it in any endeavor by just reading, you got to practice.

I hope you found the other piece of my secret.
